Safe Water Network partnered with Water Health International in 2009 to address Ghana's water challenges through locally-owned, decentralized safe water systems. When the initiative outcomes in 2010 were far short of expectations, Safe Water Network took a problem solving approach to identify and overcome the major roadblocks. The results of these efforts to date are positive, and this review can serve as a guide to others in overcoming similar challenges, as well as testament to the viability of decentralized water systems in Ghana and similar contexts.
