The CFMC is your local center for philanthropy, working with donors and nonprofits to create healthy, safe, vibrant communities. We work with hundreds of individuals, families and businesses to provide a road map to fulfill their philanthropic vision. We act as a catalyst, providing a bridge between our fund holders and the needs of the community. Our staff has in-depth knowledge about the range of nonprofits working to make our communities stronger.

Southern Monterey County Landscape Study

The study's purpose is to deepen the CFMC's understanding of nonprofit organizations serving South Monterey County (SMC); support and strengthen our combined efforts in the region towards a vision of healthy, safe vibrant communities. The CFMC■ Identified 320 nonprofit, governments, faith-based and civic organizations serving SMC in Fall 2013■ Surveyed those organizations to assess their characteristics, services, capabilities, needs and networks■ Conducted five focus groups with 53 leaders to discuss local assets & challenges (in Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, King City, and San Ardo)

Giving, Grantmaking, Impact Annual Report 2012

It all begins with giving. As a direct result of the generosity of individuals and families who create charitable funds in their lifetimes and through their estates, the CFMC celebrated a $100 million cumulative grantmaking milestone in 2012. Hundreds of local agencies were supported over the years and thousands of individuals have benefited from valuable programs and services.

The mission of the Community Foundation is to inspire philanthropy and be a catalyst for strengthening communities throughout Monterey County. Philanthropy is not limited to those who demonstrate their community spirit by writing large checks. The Foundation is accessible to everyone who wants to make a difference. Contributions of any amount are welcome to all of our nearly 300 funds including our field of interest funds, the Women's Fund, Fund for the Environment, Out Reach, Fund for the Arts or Fund for the 21st Century.

Creative Monterey County: An Action Plan

Building on a new wave of interest in arts and culture and grow ing exc itement about the creative enterprises, the Community Found ation for Monterey County and the Ar ts Cou nci l for Monterey County initiated a dialogue and research process. Expert guidance and research capabilities were prov ided by Arts Market, Inc., a national leader in the synergy of arts, culture and economic development. With financial support from The James Irvine Foundation, nearly one hundred artists, arts presenters and leaders in business, education, and government ca me together to develop "Creative Monterey County: An Action Plan" to build the creative economy over the next five years.
