The Big Picture 2: Public Expenditure on Artistic, Cultural and Creative activity in Australia in 2007-08 to 2019-20

The 2019–20 financial year included both significant bushfires and the first four months of the Covid-19 pandemic. While Covid-19 dominates our every thought and every policy today, it is important to remember that this was not the case for most of the 2019–20 period. This report provides an updated overview of cultural expenditure trends in Australia between the 2007–08 and 2019–20 periods, drawing on a new release of Australia's most comprehensive dataset on cultural funding by governments. It builds on the initial observations about this release, which ANA published in October 2021.

Gender-wise Investing: A Springboard for Australia’s Recovery

Australia faced unprecedented challenges throughout 2020, starting with bushfires that ravaged communities across Australia, only to then be dominated by the first global pandemic in 100 years.As the recovery commenced, Australians Investing in Women (AIIW) commissioned this research to provide funders with analysis and distillation of existing research into the impacts of recent disasters on women. The purpose is to highlight key issues, and identify funding hotspots, where private and corporate giving can be targeted to help accelerate Australia's economic and social recovery through a focus on women's economic security, safety and wellbeing.
